Do I need a referral to see Sharnie?
No, you can make an appointment directly without a referral. Sharnie is primary healthcare practitioner.
Are there special situations where I may require a referral to attend an osteopathic consultation?
Yes, we are accredited to treat patients under Chronic Disease Management (CDM), TAC, Veterans Affairs (DVA) and WorkCover. If you are eligible for any of these schemes you will require a referral from your GP. Don’t hesitate to call us to discuss.
Am I able to claim rebates with private health?
Yes, Sharnie is registered and governed by AHPRA, so Medicare issue her provider numbers for her practice locations that allow you to claim your rebates through the HICAPS terminal. In order to check what rebate you’ll receive prior to your consultation, quote item codes 1804 for your initial and 1803 for any subsequent appointment to your private health insurance.
What do I need to bring?
Bring along any X-rays, scans or test results relevant to your current injury, if you have these.
Am I required to arrive early for my first appointment?
Yes, you should arrive ten minutes early for your first appointment as you will need to fill out some paperwork.
Why am I asked to complete paperwork?
In order to best treat your injury, Sharnie will need to record your medical history. By law, Sharnie will obtain your approval to treat you, so you may be asked to sign an ‘Informed Consent’ form.
What should I wear?
It’s important that you feel comfortable, so wear a comfortable shirt and loose pants or bring a pair of shorts to change into. Depending on the area of your body requiring treatment, Sharnie may ask you to undress to your underwear. If you feel uncomfortable with this request, you will be offered a gown.
Can I bring a friend or relative?
Yes, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and treatment.
Is treatment painful?
Most treatment is gentle, especially for babies and children and should not cause undue discomfort. If your or your child’s injuries do require hands-on treatment of painful and tender areas, Sharnie will aim to make you as comfortable as possible.
How long will my appointment take?
Your initial consultation may last up to 60 minutes. This will enable Sharnie to take a thorough case history, examination and depending upon your condition, treat you. Follow up consultations are usually shorter, roughly 30 minutes.
How much are the fees for my consultation?
Initial consultation - $100. Subsequent consultation - $85. Home visits - $150. Please send your details through on this form to arrange a Home consultation visit. Additional travel charges may apply.
